Obama VS Clinton

The Top democratic nominees were sumed up in this CNN article:

"Clinton is still viewed by Democratic primary voters as having the most experience and the best chance of beating the Republican presidential nominee. But Obama is seen as more likable, more believable and more likely to unite the country"

As an American living abroad, the one thing you see about politics is that the most important element is to unite the country devided on many petty issues. This blog supports Barak Obama because if there is one thing that America needs, it is unity.

Brown Writer lacks political theory

The short of the article below you is that the author- someone attending an Ivy league school believes that, "Israel has never recognized the right of Palestinians to meaningful independence", and that in a whole, the Annapolis conference is a way to insult Palestinians. How can anyone deny that Israel is giving Palestinians their independence when in 2005, Israel allowed Palestinians to hold their own elections? Even though by putting Hamas in power Israel puts itself in a position where yet another government denies their right to exist, Israel proved that Palestinians do have meaningful independence when they could vote by themselves.

Articles like this anger me because it shows no educational background at all and only a subjective view on situations. I would expect more from a graduate student at Brown University and hope that when writing about current world issues, this student will show that he has a little more political theory and a little less prejudice

Jerusalem VS Peace

Would you give up the thing that mattered most to you to do the right thing? Israel is faced with this decision now with the new peace talks with the Palestinians. Olmert is willing to throw in pieces of Jerusalem to the Palestinians in order to make this peace talk a reality. Not the old city of coarse, he's talking about areas that are already primarily Muslim and very few Jewish lives would be effected by this. I understand why some people believe the Palestinians are beyond talking, but if it works I can't see how those people can put together a fair argument.

The bigger question which everyone must ask is what is really more important: Jerusalem or Peace? I mean Jerusalem is important to everyone, but does its importance outway the posibility of peace? Could Jerusalems ultimate purpose be to sacrifice itself in order to give all citizens a chance to come together? Is Jerusalem worth all the countless innocent deaths that its very exsistence has caused?

Obama: Please...Please...Please

You can have Edwards if you want someone so calm that he could tell you the world was about to blow up and you'd be in a good mood. Clinton is such a good speaker that she knows exactly what to say without even saying anything. This leaves the best Democratic candidate since Bill Clinton who seems to be a strong leader and is doing it be a democratic leader instead of a politician with prejudice. Someone who understood the effects of the Iraq war while Edwards and Clinton voted to start a war that bankrupted the country. America needs Barak Obama to re-establish the reasons America was established. America needs Obama to stop spreading Islam-phobia and start working to make peace with enemies of free nations.

America...please please please pick Barak Obama

Canadian Senate as Useful as a Broken Zipper

Today leader of the NDP, Jack Layton spoke out against the Canadian senate saying that he believed it should be abolished. This accusation of a high standing branch of Canadian Parliament calls the real effectiveness of having a senate intact. The American Senate helps to create a harmonious balance of powers which keeps the American government in check. Canada's senate has never been much more than a waist of tax payers money and there is a big push in Ottawa to have it abolished.

The larger issue in question is if Canada should be looking to strengthen its own balance of powers like the American Senate does. After all the only security to keep a government in check is having a minority government, and then only half of Canadian issue's are addressed. Ultimately I theorize that the Canadian senate will not last long, but the issue of balance of powers goes untouched in this country, which should be looked at more democratically.

Assassination Attempt on Prime Minister Olmert

Israelis secret service foiled a political plot by the Palestinians to assassinate Israel’s PM Ehud Olmert. This week the PM was in the west bank working with Palestinian leaders on a realistic peace agreement when the secret service discovered the plot. The Palestinians had people who claimed responsibility for the attempt but released them for lack of evidence.

This incident shows the never ending situation in Israel and how it is at such a point where an assassination attempt will not slow down the peace agreements. So much happens between the Palestinians and the Israelis that even the PM’s life being in danger does not slow down the peace talks. More interesting to see, even though the accused people behind the attack were from Fata (where the current Palestinian government is Hamas) Israel’s only option to a peaceful solution is to ignore acts of intolerance and violence. Though confidence in Olmert’s abilities is not at a high point, I hope to see his efforts rewarded with some progress in the Middle East.

Mcguinty is spreading xenophobia with this election- Help kick him out

Ever since the issue of faith based schools showed up, Mcguinty has been doing the polar opposite of what he was appointed to do. It would be one thing if through this campaign The Premier focused on lack of funding, but instead he chose to win votes over by praying on the provinces fears. Mcguinty made people afraid of funding schools that nearly always contribute to society. When High School is over everyone goes into active positions in Canadian society while maintaining their heritage and keeping Ontario a multi-cultural society. Mcguinty going on television, asking the province to "Stand together", means that he is to ignorant to see the contributions that private schools give, and made the issue a matter of getting people to be xenophobic about Islamic fundamentalists and other minority groups in Canada.

Mcguinty has contradicted everything that Canada was established on, and is ignoring the fact that we live in a society that was founded by immigrants. Ontario was always the home to tolerance, dating as far back as the underground railroad in the nineteen hundreds and by Mcguinty acting the way he has, he has contradicted everything that our country was built on. It is only appropriate to compare Mcguinty's behavior to the inappropriate policies made by PM King right before the Holocaust. King's xenophobia led to the death of many Jews because his fears stopped him from giving help to those who needed it, and now Mcguinty is forgetting the mistakes of his past and is hoping to lead the province by spreading fear instead of multi-cultural ism.

Though he technically did not slander and cannot be removed from office, you can hold Mcguinty accountable October 10th by removing the Liberal government from power. As a culture that promotes peace world wide, we cannot let our leader contradict peaceful and equal co-existence because all we would be are hypocrites. I hope we all join together to rid ourselves of a man who has embarrassed our once great province and start building a place free from fear.
